Telework, also called telecommuting, is one of several alternate work arrangements becoming more common in today's working world. Although advances in technology have made it possible for many more individuals to work from home or other remote locations, that is only one of the reasons for increased interest and participation in telework and other flexible work. Improved work/life balance for employees, improved employee retention, environmental benefits, and reducing commuter traffic are only some of the other reasons.

This section of the toolkit - outlined in the links on the left navigation bar - serves as a basic primer about telework. Follow the links to learn more about the types of telework and details about the benefits mentioned above. The links on the right side of the page will take you to related pages in the toolkit or to relevant sites on the Internet.
