The telework program team will need to make a number of decisions about equipment and tools. There are many software products and online services that can facilitate working remotely and collaboratively that can benefit both telework and work in the office. Web sites and services that allow one-to-one, one-to-many, and many-to-many communication and collaboration across the internet (known as Web 2.0) allow team members to work together effectively wherever they are.

Ultimately the equipment and tools a teleworker needs will depend on they kind of work they do, how frequently they telework, and whether they essentially work alone or collaboratively.

Here are some general pointers regarding equipment and tools:

  • Make sure equipment and tools meet the organization's security requirements
  • Collaborative tools aren't just for teleworkers - coworkers and managers will also need to learn how to use them
  • Ensure that adequate training is provided
